Cyclamen persicum

One of the best winter flowers for our area is slowly replacing the Poinsettia as the holiday flower. This perennial tuber will bloom continuously from the fall though the spring. In the summer it will lose most of its leaves and go dormant. During this time cut the water off and do not start watering again until the fall. They prefer bright shade and a well drained soil that will dry out a little between each watering. Do not let the plants wilt or the soil stay soggy.

Points of interest:

  • Bright vivid colors
  • Cut back flower stems as far back as possible
  • Plant in a rich soil
  • Can be grown indoors in a bright area
  • Watch for mites
  • Great as a holiday accent
  • Protect from frost
